Campus & Facilities
Construction will be starting late summer of 2010 on our new middle school area (see the concept drawing here) which we are planning on moving into during our Winter break. There also will be renovations to our current space happening this summer which will result in new space for the two Kindergarten classes as well as new temporary space for 5th, 6th and 7th grades.
Cannon River STEM School occupies four buildings on the nearly 60-acre St. James Campus of Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Faribault, Minnesota. (CRSS is not affiliated with Shattuck-St. Mary’s, but leases the facility from Shattuck.)
The main classroom building, Old Main, was built between 1860 and 1880. It was originally the St. James School for Boys, seen below in a photograph from the 1910s (photo courtesy of Shattuck-St. Mary’s). Old Main currently houses grades 1-3, the media center and the administrative offices. Grade 4 is located in the old (decommissioned) chapel. Grade 5 will be temporarily located in Old Main until Winter Break and Grades 6 and 7 will be temporarily located in either Old Main or in a portable classroom until Winter Break at which time they (grades 5, 6 and 7) will be moving into their brand new space attached to the Gymnasium. Kindergarten will be located in renovated space in the dormitory building.
Each classroom at CRSS contains some of the latest technologies including a SMART Board interactive white board.
