We have had a busy month at the Cannon River STEM charter School.  The board of directors finalized all of the paper work needed to receive the first installment of our federal start up funds.  Our board members will be attending training this month at the Minnesota Department of Education and at The Audubon Center of the North Woods.

Save the date: CRSS will be holding an open house on Saturday December 6th at The Just Food Coop meeting room in Northfield.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Applications will be available by January 15th please request your application packet by sending an email to crss@live.com

Facilities Update

We are currently examining a number of options for our start up location and facility.  Our initial intent was to locate at The Science Center (TSC) at The Maltby Nature Preserve but due to changes in the financial climate that is not an immediate option.  We will continue our relationship with TSC.  We will keep you updated on our progress.  We are looking at some excellent sites and buildings along the Cannon River in the Northfield, Cannon Falls and Dundas areas.

Volunteer Opportunities

We will soon be setting up a volunteer network.  Please send an email to crss@live.com if you are interested in volunteering for the school.  We could use your help setting up our office, assembling application packets, hosting our open house, grant writing, data entry and many other duties.

Donations Needed

We will be opening an office in Northfield soon and we are accepting donations of office supplies and furniture.  Send an email to crss@live.com with your donation offer and we will contact you.

Our webpage is an excellent source of information, check it out at cannonriverstemschool.org

Thank you for your support.

Friends of the Cannon River STEM School:

We are delighted to share with you the news we received this morning from the MN Department of Education.  The Cannon River STEM School’s application for charter has been accepted with sponsorship from Audubon Center of the North Woods.  We would like to thank you for the support that you granted during the writing phase of the school development.  Your interest not only helped strengthen our application but also served as motivation for the development board.  Knowing that our vision for the CRSS meets the needs of so many families was truly inspirational.

Along with our charter acceptance we received lots of feedback from those whom reviewed our application.  We’d like to share some of their comments:

“This is a strong application that offers thorough and innovative approach to an educational philosophy (STEM) that addresses a demonstrated need.â€

“The school is proposing an innovative and comprehensive STEM-focused model.  Collective resources and capable professionals offer a dynamic approach to implement and deliver on a vision of national parameters.â€

“The concept of this school is unique and exciting.  The founders have displayed great enthusiasm and knowledge in their presentation of the wonderful learning that could take place in such an environment.â€

These comments and more demonstrate that the need for this school is genuine and shared.  Although there is much to do before we open our doors in the fall of ’09, we are up to the challenge.  We plan to keep you up to date via email and via our website www.cannonriverstemschool.org on our status during this pre-operational year.  If you have further questions please feel free to email us at crss@live.com

Sincerely,

CRSS Board of Directors
