Words Their Way Homework
Dear Families,
We have decided to go to a simpler system of Words Their Way homework. Every day of the week will have an assignment that your child will have to complete. They will bring home their words the day they receive them at school and will cut them out at home. They should then bring them to and from school every day, since they will be working with them at home and at school each day. The work in both places will be recorded in their Words Their Way notebook.
Students, your homework schedule is as follows:
Monday
Writing Sort
Have someone read the words to you as you write them in the correct column.
Tuesday
Blind Sort
Have someone read the words to you and you tell them which category to place them in.
Wednesday
Word Hunt
Search for words that also fit into your sort and record them.
Thursday
Sentences
Write 6 sentences with a word in each.
Friday
Practice
Spend 10 minutes rewriting your words
Sincerely,
Mr. Wallerus

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our before-school conferences. I am looking forward to meeting with everyone in the next week. If you were not able to attend the before-school conferences or missed placed your paperwork, here is a homework assignment for students, Student Profile, and parents, Dear 5th grade parents, that are due the 1st day of school. Working together I know that there will be many successes accomplished this year.
Check back later for answers to the most frequently asked questions from this week’s conferences.
Looking forward to our first day of class!
Mr. Wallerus
About Me:
I am very eager to be returning to CRSS for my 3rd year of teaching as the fifth grade teacher. This year will be very exciting for our new fifth graders as they move into the middle school and begin to take further responsibility for their learning. We will explore more of our natural world this year like the processes of weathering and erosion. There will also be many connections made between subject areas and our natural or engineered world.
I currently hold an Elementary Education degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead and a middle school emphasis in both Math and Science. In the summer time, I work as a camp counselor for the Bloomington Parks and Rec at Camp Kota. This is where I learned many of my energizing songs and games, which we will be trying out in our Circle of Power and Respect. This past summer, in addition to camp, I took a once in a lifetime trip and back-packed through Europe. I visited 6 countries and 9 cities over the 3 week span. It was an amazing experience and I was able to learn about some of our world’s history in the locations where they occurred.
